Thai Health Authorities Warn of Dangerous 'Zombie' Vapes Containing Meth and Etomidate

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Department of Medical Sciences has issued a public health warning following the discovery of illicit substances in e-cigarette pods. Laboratory analysis conducted by the Bureau of Drug and Narcotic in June 2026 revealed that a seized orange liquid sample contained a mixture of 3.56% pure Methamphetamine Hydrochloride and Etomidate, a Type 2 psychotropic substance.

This combination, sometimes referred to as 'K-Pod' or 'Zombie Vapes,' marks the first time the Department has detected these two substances mixed together in vaping liquid. Dr. Sarawut Boonsuk, Director-General of the Department of Medical Sciences, stated that inhaling this mixture presents extreme health risks. Etomidate acts as a respiratory and brain depressant, which can lead to loss of consciousness, while Methamphetamine acts as a stimulant that can cause irregular heartbeats and sudden cardiac arrest. The combination of these opposing effects significantly increases the risk of fatal outcomes.

For residents and travelers in Thailand, this discovery highlights the severe dangers associated with illicit vaping products. While the authorities have reported these findings to raise awareness, it remains to be confirmed how widespread this specific mixture is within the illicit market. Users are cautioned that the contents of unregulated vaping pods are unpredictable and potentially life-threatening.
