Thai Cyber Police Conduct Nationwide Crackdown on Illegal Online Firearms Trade
Thai authorities executed 200 raids across the country, resulting in 186 arrests and the seizure of hundreds of weapons.
On August 25, 2026, the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) of Thailand announced the results of a massive nationwide operation targeting the illegal online trade of firearms. According to reports from Khaosod Online, police executed search warrants at 200 locations throughout the country. The operation led to the arrest of 186 suspects and the confiscation of 228 firearms along with over 1,200 rounds of ammunition.
Senior CCIB officials, including Deputy Commissioners Pol. Maj. Gen. Thinnakorn Rangmat and Pol. Maj. Gen. Chatchapantakarn Klaiklung, oversaw the briefing at the bureau’s headquarters in Muang Thong Thani. The operation is part of an ongoing effort to dismantle networks facilitating the illicit sale of weapons via digital platforms.
For residents and travelers, this crackdown highlights the Thai government's intensified focus on curbing illegal arms trafficking. While the operation demonstrates a proactive stance by law enforcement to improve public safety, it also underscores the prevalence of illicit online marketplaces.
