Police Identify Suspect in Fatal Robbery of Bangkok Shop Owner
Authorities have identified a 20-year-old Myanmar national as the primary suspect in the murder and robbery of a 78-year-old shop owner in Bangkok's Saphan Sung district.
According to Khaosod Online, Prawet Police have identified a suspect in the fatal robbery of a 78-year-old man, identified as Mr. Thawatchai, at his grocery store in the Lam Thong Athlete Village, Bangkok. Police Colonel Tossapol Ampaipipatkul stated that investigators have gathered evidence, including clothing, footwear, and CCTV footage, which they believe confirms the identity of the perpetrator with nearly 100 percent certainty.
The suspect is described as a 20-year-old Myanmar national who previously lived in an apartment complex behind the victim's home. Investigators noted that the suspect was a regular customer at the shop but had no formal employment relationship with the victim. Police believe the suspect was familiar with the victim's daily routine and the layout of the area. The suspect reportedly moved to the Ramkhamhaeng area after the apartment complex closed.
Authorities are currently in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant for charges of robbery resulting in death and nighttime trespassing. While the suspect remains at large, police believe he is still hiding within Thailand. For residents and visitors, this incident highlights a specific criminal investigation in the Saphan Sung area. It remains to be confirmed when the arrest warrant will be officially issued and whether the suspect will be apprehended.
