The Department of Physical Education has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with five universities to strengthen the national recreation action plan.

On August 25, 2026, the Department of Physical Education (DPE) under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports hosted a formal event at The Berkeley Hotel Pratunam in Bangkok to advance the '4th Recreation Action Plan (2023–2027).' During the event, titled 'Recreation for Sustainable Impact,' the DPE signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with five universities to bolster academic collaboration and enhance the development of recreational activities across Thailand.

Led by DPE Director-General Mongkol Wimolrat, the initiative aims to review progress made between 2023 and 2026 and foster stronger partnerships with various sectors. The goal is to create concrete, sustainable outcomes for the country's recreational landscape.

For residents and travelers, this development signals a long-term government commitment to improving public recreational infrastructure and organized activities. While the MOA establishes a framework for academic and operational cooperation, specific details regarding new public facilities or upcoming community programs resulting from this partnership remain to be confirmed. The initiative highlights a broader effort to integrate academic research into national leisure planning, which may eventually lead to more diverse and structured recreational opportunities throughout the country. Further updates on the implementation of these academic collaborations are expected as the 2023–2027 plan progresses.
