Thai Rugby Union Bolsters National Squad with Three Overseas Players
The Thailand Rugby Football Union has recruited three players of Thai descent from abroad to strengthen the national team for upcoming Asian competitions.
According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the Thailand Rugby Football Union has announced the addition of three players of Thai heritage to its national squad. The move is aimed at enhancing the team's performance for the upcoming Asia Series and potential Asian Games participation.
The new recruits include Ben Partridge, a Thai-New Zealand player currently competing in Japan’s Rugby League One for Tochigi Honda Heat, where he logged 1,041 minutes during the 2025/26 season. He is joined by his brother, Luke Partridge, and John Doe, a player from Tak province who grew up playing rugby in Australia. While John Doe has previously represented Thailand and played for the Royal Thai Navy club, Ben Partridge is set to make his debut for the national team. Luke Partridge has been officially entered into the national training camp.
For residents and sports enthusiasts in Thailand, this development signals a strategic effort to elevate the national rugby program by integrating international experience. While the union has confirmed these additions to the roster, the final squad selection for the Asian Games remains subject to further training and official confirmation. Fans can expect to see these players in action as the team prepares for its upcoming regional commitments.
