Forestry Department Investigates Illegal Rubber Factory in Songkhla
Thai authorities are investigating a Chinese-owned rubber processing plant in Songkhla following allegations of forest encroachment and environmental violations.
On August 25, 2026, Suchart Chomklin, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, ordered the Royal Forest Department to investigate a rubber processing facility in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province. The directive follows public complaints regarding foul odors and wastewater discharge linked to the operations of Thai Hua Rubber Public Company Limited in Moo 1, Chalung Subdistrict.
According to Khaosod Online, a joint task force—including the Payak Prai special operations unit and environmental police—has been deployed to inspect the site. Preliminary findings suggest the facility may have encroached upon 103 rai of protected forest land. Authorities have filed charges against six company directors, with the Minister emphasizing that all investors, regardless of nationality, must comply with Thai law.
