Authorities have warned residents in Bangkok and six central provinces to prepare for potential flooding due to high sea levels between August 25 and 29, 2026.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), citing data from the Royal Thai Navy’s Hydrographic Department, has issued a warning regarding high sea levels affecting the Chao Phraya River basin. According to the announcement, residents in Bangkok and six central provinces should remain vigilant between August 25 and 29, 2026, specifically during the evening hours of 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Director-General Theerapat Khachamat stated that the high tide is expected to cause water levels in rivers and canals to rise, potentially leading to overflow in low-lying areas. This poses a particular risk to communities located outside of permanent flood embankments or in areas lacking formal water defense structures.
For residents and travelers, this situation may result in localized flooding in riverside neighborhoods. Those living near the water are advised to elevate their belongings as a precautionary measure. While the alert identifies the specific dates and times of the expected tidal surge, the exact extent of the overflow remains subject to local geography and current river conditions.
