A fire involving old chemical tanks occurred at the site of the former Ming Dih Chemical factory in Samut Prakan, causing concern among local residents.
On August 25, 2026, a fire broke out at the site of the former Ming Dih Chemical factory located in Soi King Kaew 21, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan. According to Khaosod Online, local residents reported seeing large plumes of black smoke rising from the area, sparking fears due to the site's history of a major explosion and fire in July 2021.
Firefighting units from the Bang Phli Yai and Racha Thewa sub-district administrative organizations responded to the scene and successfully brought the blaze under control within approximately 20 minutes. The fire originated from old chemical tanks containing residual foam materials. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
Natthaphon Ruphan, a firefighter from Racha Thewa, stated that the incident was likely caused by individuals trespassing to cut stainless steel and scrap metal for resale. The cutting process reportedly generated sparks that ignited the leftover foam. Authorities noted that such trespassing occurs frequently in the area, often under the cover of darkness. While the active flames have been extinguished, emergency personnel remain on-site to monitor for residual heat. For residents and travelers in the vicinity, the incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing safety concerns regarding the abandoned industrial site.
