SAT Issues New Guidelines for Transporting Firearms for Sports Training

Following a directive from Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to tighten controls on firearm movement, the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has introduced new safety guidelines for athletes. The previous restrictions had caused concern among shooters regarding potential legal risks during travel for training and upcoming events, including the Asian Games.

According to Khaosod Online, the SAT has outlined a formal process for six recognized sports associations—including the Shooting Association of Thailand and the Practical Shooting Association of Thailand—to facilitate the legal transport of firearms. Associations must now submit documentation to the Department of Provincial Administration and the Royal Thai Police. Required materials include proof of training or competition schedules, athlete identification, and valid firearm ownership permits (Por 4). Individual athletes must also obtain certification from their respective national and provincial sports associations.

For residents and visitors involved in competitive shooting, these measures clarify the path to compliance under the current government policy.
