Nong Han Wetland Conservation Project Progresses in Sakon Nakhon
The Department of Water Resources has conducted site visits and public consultations to advance the conservation and ecological restoration plan for the Nong Han wetland.
Between August 19 and 21, 2026, representatives from the Department of Water Resources (DWR) visited Sakon Nakhon province to oversee the feasibility study and design phase for the Nong Han wetland conservation project. The initiative aims to restore the local ecosystem and manage natural resources effectively.
During this visit, officials held three small-group meetings (the 5th through 7th sessions) to engage with local residents, government agencies, and regional stakeholders. The discussions focused on presenting findings regarding the physical and biological characteristics of the wetland, current land usage, and the potential for ecosystem services. These meetings served as a platform to share the master plan for restoration and gather feedback from those directly impacted by the project.
For residents and visitors, this project is significant as it seeks to preserve one of Thailand’s vital natural landmarks, potentially enhancing the area's environmental health and long-term sustainability. While the DWR has shared the initial study results with stakeholders, the final implementation timeline and specific construction phases remain to be confirmed. The department continues to integrate public input into the ongoing development of the restoration strategy.
