Thailand Issues Landslide Alert for 10 Provinces
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has ordered 24-hour monitoring in 10 provinces due to high risks of landslides and flash floods between August 31 and September 4, 2026.
On August 24, 2026, Suchart Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, announced a heightened state of alert for 10 provinces across Thailand. According to Khaosod Online, the Department of Mineral Resources has been instructed to conduct 24-hour monitoring of areas susceptible to landslides and flash floods.
The provinces identified as high-risk include Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Mae Hong Son, and Tak in the North, as well as Kanchanaburi in the Central region and Trat in the East. This directive is specifically focused on the period between August 31 and September 4, 2026, when heavy and accumulated rainfall is expected.
For residents and travelers in these regions, the Ministry advises close observation of weather reports and rainfall levels, particularly in areas where precipitation may exceed 100 mm within a 24-hour period. Authorities have mobilized a network of over 45,000 local volunteers to assist with monitoring and early warning efforts. While the government is actively tracking geological risks, the specific severity of the weather impact remains to be confirmed. Individuals in these areas are encouraged to remain vigilant and observe natural warning signs of potential landslides.
