Thai Health Promotion Foundation Launches Initiative to Combat Childhood Obesity
The Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) has introduced a new program at Assumption College Primary Section to address rising obesity rates among Thai youth.
On August 24, 2026, the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) launched a health initiative at the Assumption College Primary Section in Bangkok. The program, titled 'Promoting Physical Activity for Age-Appropriate Growth through the Balanced Triangle,' aims to tackle the issue of childhood obesity, which currently affects nearly 15% of Thai children aged 5 to 17.
According to Khaosod Online, the initiative focuses on three core pillars to ensure children reach their full developmental potential: 'Play' (encouraging appropriate physical movement), 'Eat' (promoting nutritious meals low in sugar, fat, and salt), and 'Sleep' (ensuring 9 to 12 hours of quality rest daily). The event was presided over by Ms. Niramol Rasri, Director of the ThaiHealth Healthy Lifestyle Promotion Office, and included collaboration with academic institutions and school faculty.
For residents and expatriates in Thailand, this initiative highlights a growing national focus on public health and school-based wellness programs. While the program is currently being integrated into school environments, it remains to be seen how these guidelines will be implemented across different educational districts nationwide and what long-term impact these behavioral changes will have on national health statistics. The project emphasizes the importance of school-home integration in fostering healthier habits for the younger generation.
