Treasury Department Launches 'Treasury Coin Market' for Online Auctions
Thailand's Treasury Department has introduced an online platform for rare coin auctions, with the inaugural sale reaching 2.54 million baht.
According to Prachachat Business, the Thai Treasury Department has officially launched the 'Treasury Coin Market,' a new digital platform designed for the online auction of commemorative and rare coins. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas announced the initiative, which aims to modernize the distribution of numismatic products.
The platform’s inaugural auction featured a rare 10-baht coin, which successfully sold for 2.54 million baht. This move represents a significant shift toward digitalizing government-led asset sales, moving away from traditional in-person bidding processes.
For residents and collectors in Thailand, this development is notable as it provides a transparent, government-sanctioned channel for acquiring rare currency. While the platform is currently focused on numismatic items, it signals a broader trend of the Thai government adopting digital marketplaces for state-held assets.
What remains to be confirmed is the future schedule of auctions and whether the platform will expand to include other types of government-issued collectibles or assets. Interested parties should monitor official Treasury Department announcements to understand the eligibility requirements for participating in future digital bidding events.
