Thailand Strengthens Fisheries Standards to Protect Export Market
The Department of Fisheries is intensifying efforts to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing to maintain its export value of over 223 billion baht.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Thai Department of Fisheries has reaffirmed its commitment to international standards by continuing its crackdown on Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing. The initiative encompasses a comprehensive framework, including legal reforms, resource and fleet management, monitoring systems, and strict enforcement of labor regulations within the fishing industry.
Following the amendment of 71 sections of the Royal Ordinance on Fisheries, the department is now accelerating the implementation of 23 secondary regulations. These measures are designed to ensure full traceability of seafood products and improve the welfare of workers, aiming to safeguard the country’s fishing export sector, which is valued at more than 223 billion baht.
