New M82 Motorway to Open Free of Charge on August 28
Thailand’s Minister of Labour, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, has confirmed the upcoming opening of the M82 motorway, aiming to reduce travel times and alleviate congestion on the Rama II route.
According to a report by Matichon Online, Minister of Labour Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has inspected the readiness of the M82 motorway project. The new route is scheduled to open for public use starting August 28, 2026, with no toll fees charged during the initial period.
This infrastructure development is positioned as a significant solution to the long-standing traffic congestion issues associated with the Rama II road, which has historically been nicknamed the 'seven-generation road' due to its perpetual construction and delays. Officials estimate that the M82 will reduce travel time for commuters and travelers by approximately 40 minutes.
For residents and travelers, this opening represents a potential improvement in connectivity between Bangkok and the southern regions of Thailand. By providing an alternative route, the M82 is expected to ease the heavy traffic burden that has long plagued the Rama II corridor.
