Government Savings Bank Announces Flood Relief Measures for Affected Customers

The Government Savings Bank (GSB) has introduced a three-month debt suspension program for customers impacted by recent flooding in Northern Thailand.

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on August 24, 2026, the Government Savings Bank (GSB) has launched a relief initiative for individuals and businesses affected by the recent floods in Northern Thailand. As the floodwaters recede and recovery efforts begin, the bank aims to alleviate the financial burden on those whose homes, livelihoods, and businesses have sustained damage.

The core of the relief package is an automatic three-month suspension of debt payments. During this period, the bank will not charge interest, and the interest accrued during the suspension will be waived entirely. The principal payments deferred during these three months will be added to the final installment of the loan contract. Once the suspension period concludes, borrowers will resume their regular payment schedules.

This measure applies to most loan categories for customers residing or operating in areas officially designated as disaster zones by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM). The bank will notify eligible customers via SMS. For residents and travelers, this development highlights the ongoing recovery phase in Northern Thailand. While the immediate flood crisis is easing, those with financial ties to the region should verify their eligibility status directly with the bank. It remains to be confirmed which specific loan types are excluded from this program and the exact geographic boundaries of the designated disaster zones.
