OSMEP Promotes Thai SMEs Through Green Business Initiatives

The Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP) is helping Thai SMEs adopt green business practices to boost competitiveness and market access.

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP) is actively advancing its 'Green Business Potential Development Project' for the 2026 fiscal year. Panita Shinawatra, acting director of OSMEP, stated that the initiative aims to prepare Thai entrepreneurs for global trade regulations that increasingly prioritize environmental sustainability and carbon standards.

OSMEP has successfully conducted seven training seminars across the country, engaging 246 participants—a figure that exceeded initial targets. The program focuses on helping businesses transition toward green practices, which OSMEP identifies as a strategic 'Green Competitive Advantage' rather than just a corporate social responsibility effort. To provide tangible economic benefits, the agency is connecting these SMEs to international and domestic markets through events such as 'Grand Halal' and 'Thai Tiew Thai.' These efforts have reportedly generated over 69 million baht in economic value.

For residents and travelers, this initiative highlights a growing shift in the Thai business landscape toward eco-friendly products and services. While the program has successfully completed its initial training phase and market integration, it remains to be seen how these green standards will be integrated into the broader supply chain and whether these SMEs can maintain long-term compliance with evolving international environmental regulations.
