Tropical Storm 'Narra' Triggers Heavy Rain Warnings Across Thailand
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued heavy rain alerts for 30 provinces as Tropical Storm 'Narra' approaches, bringing risks of flash floods and rough seas.
On August 24, 2026, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a weather advisory regarding Tropical Storm 'Narra,' currently located in the Gulf of Tonkin. According to Khaosod Online, the storm, combined with a monsoon trough and strong southwesterly winds, is expected to cause heavy rainfall across 60% of the affected areas, including Bangkok and its surrounding provinces.
Residents and travelers in the Northern, Central, and Eastern regions should remain vigilant. The TMD has specifically warned of potential flash floods, forest runoff, and overflowing riverbanks, particularly in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes.
Maritime conditions are also impacted. The upper Andaman Sea is experiencing strong waves between 2 and 3 meters, with heights exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. The upper Gulf of Thailand faces waves of approximately 2 meters. Authorities have advised mariners to exercise extreme caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms. Notably, small boats in the upper Andaman Sea are advised to remain ashore during this period.
While the forecast covers the immediate 24-hour period, the situation remains dynamic. Travelers are encouraged to monitor local news for updates on the storm's trajectory and potential impacts on transportation or outdoor activities. As of now, the specific duration of the storm's influence on inland weather patterns remains subject to further meteorological confirmation.
