OKMD and Thai Red Cross Launch 'Senior Plearn Ground' for Active Aging

A new 2,000-square-meter learning space for seniors has opened in Samut Prakan, utilizing brain-based learning to promote active aging.

The Office of Knowledge Management and Development (OKMD) has partnered with the Thai Red Cross to launch the 'OKMD Senior Plearn Ground' at the Sawangkhaniwat facility in Samut Prakan province. Spanning over 2,000 square meters, this initiative serves as a prototype space designed to support Thailand’s transition into an aged society.

The project integrates Brain-based Learning (BBL) concepts to combine cognitive development, physical movement, rehabilitation, and social interaction. By merging OKMD’s educational expertise with the Thai Red Cross’s background in geriatric care and rehabilitation, the facility aims to foster 'Active Aging' and 'Lifelong Learning' for the elderly population.

For residents and visitors, this development highlights a growing focus on infrastructure tailored to the needs of an aging demographic in Thailand. The facility is intended to provide a concrete environment that enhances the quality of life and physical well-being of seniors through structured, creative learning activities.

According to Khaosod Online, the project involved a comprehensive development process, including site surveying, design, and landscape improvement. While the facility is now open, further details regarding specific public access schedules, membership requirements, or potential expansion of this model to other provinces remain to be confirmed by the participating organizations.
