SAT Issues Social Media Guidelines for Thai Athletes at 20th Asian Games
The Sports Authority of Thailand has advised athletes and staff to exercise caution on social media during the upcoming Asian Games in Japan to avoid legal complications.
Ahead of the 20th Asian Games, scheduled for September 19 to October 4, 2026, in Nagoya, Japan, the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has issued a formal advisory regarding social media conduct. SAT Governor Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee has urged all Thai athletes and team officials to remain vigilant to ensure their online activities do not violate local Japanese laws or event regulations.
The advisory emphasizes that Japan maintains strict legal standards regarding personal privacy and online defamation. Athletes are specifically cautioned against live-streaming, recording, or posting content that could infringe upon competition broadcasting copyrights. Furthermore, the SAT has requested that team members refrain from posting unconstructive or disrespectful content that could negatively impact the reputation of the host nation or fellow competitors.
This guidance is intended to prevent accidental legal issues for the Thai delegation. While Dr. Kongsak expressed confidence in the discipline and maturity of the Thai athletes, noting that such incidents have not occurred in the past, the directive serves as a proactive measure to ensure compliance with the host country's rigorous legal framework. As of now, it remains to be seen how strictly these regulations will be enforced by local authorities and event organizers during the games.
