Monk Arrested Following Attempted Assault in Loei Province
A man dressed as a monk was apprehended by villagers in Loei after allegedly attempting to assault an 18-year-old woman while under the influence of narcotics.
On August 23, 2026, police in Pha Khao District, Loei Province, responded to a report of an attempted assault involving a man dressed in monastic attire. According to Khaosod Online, the incident occurred in a residence in Ban Phoem sub-district, where an 18-year-old woman was alone when the suspect entered her home. The victim reported that the man, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs, attempted to molest her. Her cries for help alerted neighbors, who intervened and restrained the man until authorities arrived.
Upon arrival, police found the suspect—wearing only a monk’s lower robe and a t-shirt—bound by villagers. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody and defrocked.
For residents and travelers, this incident highlights the importance of community vigilance in rural areas. While such events are isolated, they serve as a reminder to remain aware of one's surroundings.
