Thai SMEs Expand Global Reach via Hong Kong Trade Mission

The Department of Foreign Trade and the Office of SMEs Promotion have led 80 Thai businesses to Hong Kong to foster international market integration.

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Department of Foreign Trade (DFT) under the Ministry of Commerce, in collaboration with the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP), recently facilitated a trade mission to Hong Kong. From August 13 to 17, 2026, 80 Thai small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) participated in the 'Local to Global' (DFT+) project.

The delegation comprised businesses specializing in food and beverages, processed agricultural products, consumer goods, and lifestyle items. The initiative aimed to provide entrepreneurs with direct market experience, facilitate networking with potential business partners, and offer insights into current international market trends. Arada Fuangtong, Director-General of the DFT, noted that the program is designed to help local businesses enhance their competitiveness and successfully transition into the global market.

For residents and travelers, this initiative highlights a broader push by the Thai government to elevate the profile of local products on the international stage. While the immediate goal is business expansion, the long-term impact may include a wider availability of premium Thai goods in international markets. It remains to be confirmed how many of these participating SMEs will secure long-term distribution contracts or establish permanent trade partnerships as a result of this specific mission.
