Thai SMEs Expand into Hong Kong Market
The Department of Foreign Trade and the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion have launched a joint initiative to help 80 Thai businesses enter the Hong Kong market.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Department of Foreign Trade (DFT) and the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP) have collaborated to support 80 Thai entrepreneurs in expanding their reach into Hong Kong. This initiative, titled 'DFT+', aims to provide local businesses with direct exposure to international trade environments.
As part of the program, participants attended the HKTDC Hong Kong Food Pro 2026 exhibition and engaged in business matching sessions with over 60 potential partners from Hong Kong and mainland China. The project also included market research within the Greater Bay Area and visits to local retail outlets to better understand consumer behavior in the region. Officials estimate that this initiative could generate approximately 350 million baht in trade value over the next year.
For residents and travelers, this development highlights the growing international presence of Thai products, particularly in the food and retail sectors. While the projected trade value suggests a positive economic outlook for these SMEs, the actual long-term impact on trade figures remains to be confirmed as the businesses begin to implement their strategies in the competitive Hong Kong market.
