Suspect Denied Bail Following Stabbing of Police Officer in Bangkok
A man accused of stabbing a police officer at a shrimp fishing pond in Lat Phrao has been denied bail by the Criminal Court due to the severity of the incident.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, a suspect identified as Chalauy, also known as 'Dam Ban Tai,' has been remanded to custody following a violent altercation on August 19, 2026. The incident occurred during a birthday celebration for a local figure at a shrimp fishing pond in the Lat Phrao district of Bangkok.
Authorities allege that the suspect stabbed Police Lieutenant Sittichai Phet-in, a member of the 191 Special Branch, leaving the officer with serious injuries. Following his arrest under a Criminal Court warrant, the suspect faced charges including attempted murder and the illegal carrying of a weapon in a public area. After the initial detention hearing, the suspect’s request for temporary release on bail was rejected. The Criminal Court cited the brazen nature of the act, which took place in a public setting, and expressed concerns regarding a potential flight risk.
