Phichit Residents Question 9.95 Million Baht Road Project
Local residents and anti-corruption advocates in Phichit are questioning the necessity of a 9.95 million baht asphalt resurfacing project on Highway 113.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on August 22, 2026, the Phichit Highway District has announced a bidding process for a road improvement project on Highway 113, specifically between kilometer markers 81+400 and 82+198. The project, which involves resurfacing the asphalt section of the road connecting Phichit and Taphan Hin, has been allocated a budget of 9.95 million baht.
Local residents have expressed confusion and concern regarding the necessity of this work, noting that the current road surface appears to be in good condition. The project site, located after the concrete section near the Siriwat intersection, is frequently used by commuters traveling between the two districts. Due to the perceived adequacy of the existing road, members of the local community and the STRONG Anti-Corruption Club of Phichit have called for oversight agencies, including the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and the Office of the Auditor General, to investigate the project's justification.
For residents and travelers, this situation highlights potential concerns regarding the allocation of public infrastructure funds. While the bidding process is underway, it remains to be confirmed whether the authorities will provide a technical justification for the resurfacing or if an official investigation into the project's necessity will be launched by the requested oversight bodies.
