Lost 7-Year-Old Girl Reunited with Parents in Zhanjiang After Drawing Portrait
A seven-year-old girl who became lost while searching for her mother in Zhanjiang, China, was successfully reunited with her family after police used her hand-drawn portrait to identify her parents.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, a seven-year-old girl was found wandering alone on a street in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, China. A concerned citizen brought the child to a local police station after she became separated from her family. The girl had reportedly left her home to look for her mother, who was out at the time, but lost her way.
When questioned by officers, the child was unable to provide her parents' names or contact information. In an attempt to assist the investigation, she offered to draw a picture of her mother. While the resulting sketch was simplistic, it provided officers with a starting point. Based on the child's assertion that she was not a local resident, police hypothesized that her parents might be vendors working in a nearby market. Officers drove the girl through the area, allowing her to point out familiar landmarks while they consulted with local residents. After approximately one hour of searching, the police successfully located the girl's parents.
For travelers or residents in China, this incident highlights the importance of ensuring children carry identification or contact information, especially in unfamiliar urban environments.
