Recovery Efforts Underway Following Severe Flooding in Nan Province

On August 22, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Yotchanan Wongsawat, serving as the chair of the committee for flood and drought management in Northern Thailand, led a briefing at the Nan Provincial Incident Command Center to coordinate recovery operations. Following recent severe flooding, authorities have launched a large-scale cleanup effort, particularly in Pua District, to clear mud and restore traffic flow.
According to Khaosod Online, the operation involves 670 military personnel. This includes 40 engineering troops equipped with heavy machinery deployed from Phitsanulok, 550 personnel from the 38th Military Circle, and an additional 80 troops from the 34th and 35th Military Circles. The Department of Irrigation and the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning have been tasked with clearing mud and conducting assessments of damaged residential properties.
For residents and travelers, this recovery phase means that while emergency response is active, certain areas may still face traffic disruptions or restricted access due to ongoing cleanup operations.
