According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, an unexpected incident occurred on AirAsia flight AK1516, which departed Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, on August 18, 2026, bound for Shanghai Pudong International Airport. A female passenger, who was traveling with a child, reportedly suffered from sudden diarrhea at her seat, causing a strong odor to permeate the cabin.
Fellow passengers, including a couple seated nearby, stated that the smell persisted for nearly 40 minutes. The incident reportedly took place shortly before 2:00 a.m. on August 19, despite the passenger’s seat being located less than five meters from the aircraft's lavatory. The woman indicated to those around her that she was feeling unwell. Cabin crew members were required to intervene to clean the affected area.
