Flood Warnings Issued for Northern and Central Thailand
GISTDA has identified high-risk flood zones in Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, and Uttaradit, while recovery efforts continue in Nan following recent fatalities.
On August 22, 2026, former Pheu Thai spokesperson Prompong Nopparit highlighted urgent flood concerns based on data from the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA). According to GISTDA’s water monitoring system as of August 21, significant flood risks have been identified across more than 3,900 square kilometers in the Sukhothai and Phitsanulok basins, as well as in Uttaradit province.
For residents and travelers, these warnings indicate a potential for infrastructure disruption, including damage to roads and local transport networks in these central and northern regions. Authorities are being urged to prioritize early warning systems to mitigate future losses.
Meanwhile, recovery operations are underway in Nan province, which has already experienced severe flooding. Reports indicate that the disaster has caused extensive damage to homes, businesses, and agricultural land, with three confirmed fatalities. Officials are currently being pressured to expedite relief efforts and simplify documentation processes to assist affected residents in returning to their daily lives.
While the immediate focus remains on recovery in Nan, those planning travel to Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, or Uttaradit should monitor local weather reports and official government announcements closely.
