Northern Thailand Flood Alert: Nan Province Reports 500 Million Baht in Damages
Authorities are monitoring flood risks in Northern Thailand as Nan province faces significant economic losses, while major dam levels remain lower than last year.
According to a report by Prachachat Business on August 22, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri has ordered strict monitoring of flood conditions across Northern Thailand. The directive includes tracking the movement of water masses as they flow toward the central regions of the country.
Nan province has been particularly affected, with the local Chamber of Commerce estimating initial economic damages at 500 million baht. In response to the impact on local businesses, the Chamber has proposed six measures to the government aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) affected by the disaster.
Despite the immediate concerns in the north, officials remain cautiously optimistic regarding the broader national water situation. Current data indicates that water levels in the four major dams along the Chao Phraya River are lower than they were at this time last year. Furthermore, water levels in 12 other major reservoirs are reported to be below 30% of their total capacity.
