Major Fire Engulfs Plywood Factory in Chonburi
A massive fire broke out at a plywood factory in Phanat Nikhom, Chonburi, on August 22, 2026, with firefighting efforts ongoing for over five hours.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, a severe fire erupted at a plywood manufacturing facility in Nong Prue, Phanat Nikhom District, Chonburi, in the early hours of August 22, 2026. Police were notified of the incident at approximately 1:00 AM.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found two large plywood warehouses engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky. More than 20 fire trucks from various local jurisdictions were deployed to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjacent areas. Despite continuous efforts by firefighting teams for over five hours, the fire remained active as of 6:30 AM.
Firefighters noted that the operation is particularly challenging due to the vast size of the warehouses and the large volume of plywood stored inside, which is highly flammable and retains heat, causing the fire to reignite periodically. Authorities have cordoned off the surrounding area to ensure public safety.
For residents and travelers in the vicinity, the incident may cause localized air quality issues due to smoke and potential traffic disruptions near the site. At this stage, the cause of the fire and the total extent of the financial damage remain under investigation by the relevant authorities.
