Archaeologists Recover Ancient Human Remains at Don Yai Thong Site
The Fine Arts Department has successfully extracted the final two sets of ancient human skeletons from the Don Yai Thong archaeological site in Phetchaburi.
On August 22, 2026, the Fine Arts Department, led by the 1st Regional Office of Fine Arts in Ratchaburi, completed the extraction of the final two sets of ancient human remains from the Don Yai Thong archaeological site in Ban Lat District, Phetchaburi. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the operation involved the use of a 10-ton crane to lift the base platforms supporting the skeletons, which are estimated to be between 1,500 and 2,000 years old.
The first set included four skeletons (numbers 5–8), while the second set comprised three skeletons (numbers 9–11). These remains have been transported to the Science for Conservation Center in Pathum Thani for professional preservation and further study.
For residents and visitors interested in Thai history, this discovery highlights the rich prehistoric heritage of Phetchaburi province. While the site has provided significant insights into ancient burial practices, the specific cultural identity and detailed history of the individuals found remain subjects of ongoing scientific analysis. As the remains are now undergoing laboratory conservation, they are not currently available for public viewing. Further updates regarding the findings from these remains are expected once the conservation process at the Pathum Thani facility is concluded.
