Mae Hong Son Governor Addresses Flood and Landslide Crisis
Following heavy rainfall, the Governor of Mae Hong Son has visited flood-affected areas and landslide sites, ordering urgent relief and infrastructure repairs.
On August 21, 2026, Mae Hong Son Governor Wiboon Waewbandit conducted an inspection of flood and landslide-affected areas in Mae Sariang District. The region has experienced significant disruption due to heavy rainfall, which caused mudslides that blocked Highway 108 at 35 separate locations.
Governor Waewbandit visited the family of a deceased victim in Ban Mae Sawan Noi, Mae Ho Subdistrict, to offer condolences and relief supplies. He has instructed local authorities to expedite financial compensation for the affected family. Regarding infrastructure, the Governor ordered the immediate clearance of blocked roads and directed the Provincial Electricity Authority to restore power to affected areas. Additionally, he has commissioned assessments of damaged riverbank protection structures in Ban Pong and Ban Na Khao to determine long-term mitigation strategies.
For residents and travelers, this situation highlights the ongoing risk of travel disruptions and safety hazards in mountainous areas during the rainy season. Authorities have mandated 24-hour monitoring of water levels and landslide-prone zones. While relief efforts are underway, travelers should remain cautious, as road conditions may change rapidly.
