M6 Motorway Opens New Section Between Bang Pa-in and Pak Chong
The Thai Ministry of Transport has opened a 110-kilometer section of the M6 motorway for trial use, offering free weekend travel for four-wheeled vehicles.
On August 21, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, alongside Deputy Minister of Transport Siriphong Angkasakulkiat, officially inaugurated a new trial segment of the M6 motorway (Bang Pa-in–Nakhon Ratchasima). According to Khaosod Online Thailand, this 110-kilometer stretch connects Bang Pa-in in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province to Pak Chong.
For travelers and residents, this development provides an additional route from Bangkok and its surrounding areas toward Nakhon Ratchasima and the Northeast region. During this trial period, the route is open to four-wheeled vehicles only, free of charge, every Friday from 12:00 PM until Sunday at midnight. A speed limit of 80 km/h is strictly enforced throughout this section.
While this opening offers a new travel option, several details remain to be confirmed. The Ministry of Transport has stated that this is part of a phased approach, with the ultimate goal being the full operation of the entire M6 line. Future updates regarding the expansion of operating hours, potential changes to vehicle restrictions, or the eventual transition to a permanent toll-based system have not yet been finalized. Travelers are advised to monitor official announcements from the Department of Highways for any changes to traffic regulations or operational status.
