Investigation Underway Following Discovery of Deceased Infant in Khon Kaen
Authorities in Khon Kaen are investigating the death of a newborn found near a residential wall, with a 32-year-old woman currently under questioning.
On August 21, 2026, Khaosod Online reported that police in the Wela-wan district of Khon Kaen province are investigating the death of a newborn baby girl. The infant’s body was discovered on August 20 near a residential wall in Ban Non, Non Thon sub-district. According to police reports, the body was found lying on its back, partially covered by a blue blanket.
Following an investigation into local residents, authorities identified a 32-year-old woman, referred to by the pseudonym 'Kook-kai,' who had been pregnant. During questioning, the woman claimed she was unaware of her pregnancy. She stated that she experienced abdominal pain around 2:00 AM on August 20 and discovered the infant had been delivered without making any sound, which caused her to panic.
The infant's remains have been transported to the Department of Forensic Medicine at Srinagarind Hospital to determine the exact cause of death. Police are currently awaiting the results of the autopsy. Authorities have indicated that if the investigation reveals evidence of foul play or intentional harm, criminal charges will be filed against the mother.
