ONWR Issues Flood Alert for Nan Province Ahead of New Rainfall
Authorities are monitoring nine districts in Nan province as new rainfall is expected between August 23 and 24, following recent flood recovery efforts.
According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) has issued a warning for potential new rainfall in the upper Nan River basin. While flood conditions in Nan province have shown consistent improvement, with water levels in major rivers receding to within their banks, recovery operations are currently underway to clean homes, public spaces, and repair damaged infrastructure.
Despite this progress, the ONWR, in coordination with the Thai Meteorological Department and the Hydro-Informatics Institute, has identified a low-pressure system that may bring heavy rain to the upper northern and northeastern regions. Specifically, nine districts in Nan—Pua, Tha Wang Pha, Thung Chang, Chiang Klang, Wiang Sa, Mae Charim, Santi Suk, Bo Kluea, and Chaloem Phra Kiat—are under observation for the period of August 23–24.
For residents and travelers, this situation is significant as it may impact travel plans, road accessibility, and safety in mountainous or slope-adjacent areas. While the situation is currently stabilizing, those in the affected districts should remain vigilant. It remains to be confirmed how much precipitation will accumulate during this upcoming window and whether the existing infrastructure can withstand the new influx of water.
