Budget Committee Approves 11 Billion Baht Reallocation for Nine Agencies
Thailand's budget committee has approved an 11 billion baht reallocation to support nine government agencies, despite opposition from the People's Party.
According to a report by Thai Post on August 21, 2026, the parliamentary budget committee has voted to reallocate 11 billion baht to bolster the operations of nine government agencies. The decision follows deliberations on how to best distribute state funds to address current administrative needs.
During the session, members from the People's Party (PChon) expressed opposition to the move. They argued that the government should instead utilize the nearly 100 billion baht already available in the central budget. The People's Party specifically advocated for additional funding for the Student Loan Fund (SLF), citing concerns that approximately 10,000 students are at risk of dropping out of the education system due to a lack of available loan capital.
However, committee member Korrawee countered this proposal, pointing to the existing 200 billion baht in outstanding debt owed to the SLF. He argued that injecting more capital into the fund while such significant arrears remain is not a viable solution. Consequently, the committee’s majority voted to reject the proposal to prioritize the SLF.
