Mixed Results for Thai Badminton Stars at 2026 World Championships
Dechapol Puavaranukroh withdraws from the World Championships due to injury, while Pornpawee Chochuwong advances to the semifinals.
At the 2026 BWF World Championships held in India, the Thai badminton contingent experienced a mix of misfortune and success. Dechapol Puavaranukroh, competing in the mixed doubles alongside Supissara Paewsampran, has been forced to withdraw from the tournament. According to Khaosod Online, the pair had successfully advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Japan’s Yuichi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobara in the round of 16. However, Dechapol sustained a knee injury during the final point of that match, leading to his withdrawal from the upcoming quarterfinal against France’s Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue.
Dechapol expressed his disappointment, noting that he is currently focusing on recovery and monitoring his condition. For fans and residents following the sport, this withdrawal marks the end of the Thai mixed doubles campaign in this year's championship.
Conversely, in the women’s singles category, Pornpawee Chochuwong has secured a spot in the semifinals. She advanced automatically after her quarterfinal opponent, Nozomi Okuhara of Japan, withdrew from the competition. Pornpawee now awaits the winner of the match between Michelle Li and her next opponent to determine her path to the final. While the tournament continues, the extent of Dechapol’s recovery timeline remains to be confirmed by his medical team.
