Flooding Impacts Six Thai Provinces; Two Fatalities Reported
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reports that flooding across six provinces has affected over 23,000 households, with two confirmed deaths in Nan.
As of August 21, 2026, the Thai Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued an update regarding ongoing flood conditions across six provinces: Nan, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Sakon Nakhon, and Ubon Ratchathani. According to Khaosod Online, the flooding has impacted 16 districts, 61 sub-districts, and 363 villages, affecting a total of 23,823 households or approximately 73,797 individuals.
Tragically, the DDPM confirmed two fatalities, both occurring in Nan province—one in Pua District and one in Tha Wang Pha District. While authorities note that the situation is beginning to stabilize in several areas, with recovery efforts underway, the impact remains significant for local residents and travelers in these regions.
For those currently in or planning to visit these provinces, it is essential to monitor local news and follow instructions from provincial authorities, as road conditions and public services may be disrupted. While some areas are transitioning into the recovery phase, the full extent of the damage and the timeline for complete restoration of services in the affected districts remain to be confirmed. Travelers are advised to exercise caution and check with local transport providers before embarking on journeys through these northern and northeastern provinces.
