Royal Thai Army Expands Weekly Market Initiative

The Royal Thai Army has increased the frequency of its internal market to every Friday to support personnel and their families with affordable goods.

On August 21, 2026, General Chaiyapruek Duangpraphat, Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Army, visited the Army Market at the Royal Thai Army Headquarters in Bangkok. The initiative, established under the policy of the Commander-in-Chief, aims to reduce living costs for military personnel and their families while providing a platform for them to sell consumer goods and local products at budget-friendly prices.

Originally held twice a month, the market will now operate every Friday from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM. According to Khaosod Online, the expansion follows high demand and consistent sell-out rates for the products offered. During his visit, General Chaiyapruek personally purchased various items, including fried bananas, mangosteens, and sausages, highlighting the military's commitment to improving the welfare and financial stability of its members.

For residents and visitors, this development underscores the military's ongoing efforts to manage internal welfare through community-based economic support. While the market is primarily designed for military personnel and their families, it reflects a broader trend of local initiatives aimed at mitigating rising living costs. It remains to be confirmed whether these markets will eventually open to the general public or if they will remain exclusive to the military community. Travelers should note that this is an internal facility and not a public tourist attraction.
