Thailand's Ministry of Education is mobilizing support for schools, teachers, and students affected by rapid flooding in the northern province of Nan.
According to a report by Khaosod Online on August 21, 2026, severe flooding in Northern Thailand, particularly in Nan province, has caused significant disruption to the educational sector. Deputy Minister of Education Akaranan Kankittinan stated that multiple educational institutions have been impacted by the rapidly rising waters.
In response, the Ministry has directed the Department of Learning Promotion to prioritize the safety of personnel and prepare recovery plans for when the water recedes. The Ministry is currently assessing the extent of the damage to determine which schools may need to temporarily suspend operations. Minister of Education Prasert Chantararuangthong has expressed deep concern regarding the situation and is planning a personal visit to the affected areas to oversee relief efforts and ensure that students' learning continuity is maintained despite the crisis.
