Recovery Efforts Underway in Nan Following Recent Flooding
Deputy Prime Minister Yotsanan Wongsawat led a large-scale cleanup operation in Nan Municipality on August 21, 2026, following the recession of floodwaters.
On August 21, 2026, Yotsanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, visited Nan Municipality to oversee recovery efforts. As the head of the committee managing flood and drought issues in Northern Thailand, Yotsanan joined local officials, military personnel, and volunteers in a 'big cleaning' operation along Sumon Thewarat Road and the area near Sri Kham Market.
Following the recession of floodwaters, the cleanup involved high-pressure water trucks from the Nan Provincial Administrative Organization and the Royal Irrigation Department to remove mud and debris. Yotsanan, accompanied by Nan Governor Chainarong Wongyai, participated directly in the cleaning process to support local residents and civil society groups.
For residents and visitors, this recovery phase marks a return to normalcy in the city center, though infrastructure restoration continues. The government has announced plans for an integrated water management strategy, which includes upgrading Geographic Information System (GIS) data to a 'Digital Twin' model. This initiative aims to utilize telemetry data for more precise disaster warnings in the future. While the immediate cleanup is underway, details regarding the specific timeline for full compensation and the implementation schedule for the new water management technology remain to be confirmed by the relevant authorities.
