Thailand’s Department of Internal Trade Manages Southern Fruit Surplus

According to a report by Prachachat Business on August 21, 2026, Thailand’s Department of Internal Trade is actively managing the southern fruit harvest, which has seen a significant surge in volume. Specifically, mangosteen production for the 2026 season is projected to reach 139,000 tons, representing a 75% increase compared to previous periods.

To stabilize the market and support farmers, the department has launched several initiatives. These include the establishment of three dedicated auction sites with a collection target of 10,000 tons, and partnerships with modern trade retailers to absorb the excess supply. Additionally, the department has engaged celebrity manager 'A Supachai' to help promote consumption. Plans are also in place to distribute over 500 tons of mangosteen through various channels.

For residents and travelers, this surplus may lead to increased availability and potentially more competitive pricing for high-quality southern mangosteens in local markets and supermarkets throughout August.
