Thai Government Reassures Japanese Investors Amid EV Industry Shifts

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul recently addressed concerns regarding the future of Japanese manufacturing in Thailand. Speaking to Khaosod Online, the Prime Minister dismissed rumors that Japanese firms are relocating their production bases, emphasizing that the government remains committed to supporting long-term partners. He highlighted that Japanese companies have long utilized Thailand as a primary production hub, becoming an integral part of the nation's industrial landscape.

Anutin stated that the government is actively working to remove business obstacles to ensure Thailand remains a competitive global supply chain hub for the automotive sector. He noted that a significant portion of automotive components, including engines and chassis, are produced domestically under Japanese brands. To maintain this strong relationship, the government is focusing on creating flexible business conditions rather than imposing new, restrictive requirements.

Regarding the electric vehicle (EV) sector, the Prime Minister has tasked Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas with reviewing policies to ensure fair treatment for all international investors. For residents and those interested in the Thai economy, this development signals a government effort to stabilize the industrial sector.
