Rescue Operation Saves Four Teachers Stranded by Floods in Mae Hong Son
Thai military and rescue teams successfully evacuated four teachers trapped in Mae Hong Son after heavy rains caused landslides and bridge damage.
On August 20, 2026, personnel from the 36th Ranger Regiment Task Force and local rescue teams conducted a high-risk operation to rescue four teachers from Ban Huai Pang Phang School in Mae Sariang District, Mae Hong Son Province. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the teachers were stranded on the opposite side of the Mae Sariang creek after continuous heavy rainfall triggered landslides and destroyed a bridge, effectively cutting off access to the village.
To reach the stranded individuals, rescue teams secured ropes between large trees on both banks of the creek. They navigated the turbulent, fast-flowing water to assist the teachers in crossing one by one, successfully bringing all four to safety. Due to the severe damage to local infrastructure, the school has temporarily suspended classes.
For residents and travelers in the region, this incident highlights the significant risks posed by monsoon-related weather, including sudden flash floods and unstable terrain. While the immediate rescue was successful, the 36th Ranger Regiment remains on 24-hour alert to monitor further landslide risks and assist in affected areas.
