Unusual Incident in Chiang Mai: Cow Found Tangled in Tree
A retired teacher in Chiang Mai discovered his young bull trapped after its tail became entangled in a lead tree, a rare occurrence that highlights the unpredictable nature of rural livestock management.
On August 20, 2026, a retired educator named Jaran Phueakkam, residing in Huai Muang village, Chom Thong district, Chiang Mai, reported a highly unusual incident involving his livestock. While checking on his 10-month-old bull, nicknamed 'Jao Kaed' or 'Jao Chrae,' Jaran found the animal standing completely motionless. Upon closer inspection, he discovered that the bull’s tail had become tightly wrapped around a lead tree (Leucaena leucocephala), effectively pinning the animal in place.
Jaran, who has spent years raising fighting bulls, expressed his astonishment, noting that in his 68 years, he had never witnessed such an event. While cattle are known to occasionally get their tethers tangled around posts, this specific entanglement involving the animal's own tail and a tree was a first for him. He successfully intervened to untangle the bull, which is the final offspring of a cow purchased from Nakhon Si Thammarat.
For residents and visitors in rural Thailand, this incident serves as a reminder of the unique and sometimes unexpected challenges faced by local farmers. While the situation was resolved without injury to the animal, it underscores the importance of monitoring livestock closely in agricultural areas.
