Authorities Seize 68 Tons of Illegal Pet Food in Thailand

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, a joint task force led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, including the Department of Livestock Development, Customs Department, and the Central Investigation Bureau, has raided warehouses in Samut Sakhon and Samut Prakan provinces. The operation resulted in the seizure of 68 tons of dog and cat food, valued at over 30 million baht.

Authorities stated that the products were manufactured in China and smuggled into Thailand for sale via online platforms without proper registration with the Department of Livestock Development or valid import permits. Sorawut Nuangjamnong, Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, noted that the raid followed public complaints regarding the sale of these unregistered goods. The seized items are now subject to legal proceedings under the Animal Feed Quality Control Act and the Customs Act.

For residents and pet owners in Thailand, this incident highlights the risks associated with purchasing unregulated animal feed online. While the immediate threat has been addressed by this enforcement action, it remains to be confirmed whether other similar products are currently circulating in the market.
