Thai Rice Exports Surge in ASEAN Markets
Thailand has reclaimed its position as Malaysia's top rice supplier, with significant growth also reported in the Philippines.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, Thailand has regained its status as the primary rice exporter to Malaysia during the first half of 2026. Data from the Department of Foreign Trade indicates that Thailand supplied 327,995 tons of rice to Malaysia, accounting for a 46% market share. The Malaysian state-owned enterprise BERNAS has reportedly praised the quality and reliability of Thai exporters.
Furthermore, the Philippines has shown a robust increase in demand for Thai rice, with imports growing by 110%. Officials are optimistic that total rice exports to these key ASEAN partners could exceed 700,000 tons by the end of the year.
For residents and travelers, this shift highlights the strengthening of Thailand’s agricultural trade position within the region. While the current data reflects a strong performance in the first half of the year, the final annual export volume remains to be confirmed as market conditions evolve.
