SRT Electrified Train Co. Prepares to Take Over Airport Rail Link Operations
The operator of the Red Line is ready to manage the Airport Rail Link starting October 1, 2026, pending a final contract decision from the State Railway of Thailand.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on August 20, 2026, the SRT Electrified Train Co. (SRTET), which currently operates the Red Line, is preparing to assume control of the Airport Rail Link (ARL). This transition follows the scheduled expiration of the current contract held by Asia Era One (CP Group) on September 30, 2026.
Air Chief Marshal Kongsak Chantharasopha, acting president of SRTET, stated that the company is ready to begin operations on October 1, 2026. To ensure a seamless transition, SRTET has prepared approximately 300 personnel and plans to absorb existing staff from the current operator.
For travelers and residents, this change is significant as it aims to maintain uninterrupted service between the city and Suvarnabhumi Airport. However, the transition is not yet finalized. SRTET has requested that the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) confirm the management model and finalize the employment contract by September 1, 2026. There is concern that if the agreement is delayed, the current private operator might be granted a temporary contract extension of six months to one year. As of now, the public awaits the final decision from the SRT to confirm whether the handover will proceed as scheduled on October 1.
