Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Dismisses Another Employee in ID Fraud Probe
The BMA has dismissed an additional permanent employee at the Din Daeng District Office for alleged involvement in a scheme to issue illegal 'pink' ID cards to foreign nationals.
On August 20, 2026, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) announced the dismissal of another permanent employee at the Din Daeng District Office, effective August 19, 2026. According to Pol. Gen. Adis Ngamjitsuksri, an advisor to the Bangkok Governor, this action is part of the ongoing 'Sweep the House' operation targeting a corruption network that facilitates the issuance of 'pink' identification cards—typically reserved for non-Thai nationals—to unauthorized individuals.
Investigations revealed that the employee allegedly collaborated with brokers to register foreign nationals into household registrations at Din Daeng flats belonging to the employee's relatives. The employee is accused of assisting with the documentation required to secure these pink ID cards. Police have charged the individual with aiding officials in malfeasance, providing false information for household registrations, and inputting false data into a computer system. This follows the suspension of three other civil servants from the registration department on August 18, 2026, for similar offenses.
For residents and visitors, this case highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to tighten oversight of civil registration processes. While these actions aim to curb identity fraud, the full extent of the network remains under investigation. It is not yet confirmed how many individuals may have obtained fraudulent documentation through this specific scheme or if further administrative actions will be taken against other district office personnel.
